CURC, NRECA Submit Joint Letter in Support of USE IT Act

April 11, 2018

Ahead of a hearing in the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, CURC and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) submitted a joint letter in support of S. 2602, the Utilizing Significant Emissions with Innovative Technologies (USE IT) Act.  The letter highlights how implementation of the USE IT Act will help to bring down the cost of commercial-scale CCUS projects and CO2 pipelines.

The USE IT Act was introduced by Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) in March, and was cosponsored by Senators Shelley Moore Capito (RWV), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). The bill would expand existing authority to support CO2 utilization and direct air capture research, make CCUS projects and CO2 pipelines eligible for permitting review processes under the FAST Act, establish a direct air capture technology advisory board, and further bolster the Section 45Q tax credit.
