Richard Reavey, CURC Vice Chair

Richard Reavey, Vice President Public Affairs at Cloud Peak Energy, has extensive global public affairs experience and has worked complex fiscal and public policy issues on the ground with governments in over 50 countries. He heads the government affairs, communications, and community relations functions at Cloud Peak Energy, a major US coal producer with mines in the Powder River Basin in Wyoming and Montana. Prior to joining Cloud Peak in 2014, Reavey worked for several years in the consulting field, mainly helping clients to enter developing markets or engage with officials in the Middle East and Africa. From 1990 – 2007, he was an executive with Philip Morris International and held positions in the communications and government affairs around the world, including as head of function for one of four global operating units. He began his career as a staffer in the US Congress.

Reavey is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (BS) and Center for Contemporary Arab Studies (MA). He has lived in Switzerland, Sweden, the UAE, and Malaysia. He and his family currently reside in Colorado.
